Gas Logs

These days, one of the most desired features amongst home owners is a fireplace. Of course, the traditional wood fireplace can be quite messy. As a result, many people are turning to its alternative, a fireplace fitted with gas logs. But choosing gas fireplace logs can be daunting if you’re a first time buyer. Don’t fret, though, as this process isn’t as confusing as you may think.

When it comes to gas logs, there are three basic types – unvented, vented and partially vented. While vent free gas logs don’t produce a realistic flame, they do generate a high amount of heat. Because the chimney flue remains closed, most of the heat from ventless logs stays in the home, which is great for extra heating. However, check state laws before installing them, as some states have banned these fireplace gas logs due to the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Vented gas logs are the most popular. They are very realistic and produce a flame that simulates a realistic wood fire quite well. Vented gas fire logs don’t produce much heat, however. Partially vented gas logs make up the middle-ground option. This gas log is a hybrid of the other two types, producing heat and a flame that’s somewhere in between unvented and vented logs.

Another factor to consider is how to light your gas log fireplace. A gas log fireplace with a standard burner will require lighting with a match each time it’s used. Adding a wall switch or remote to the unit alleviates the need to keep relighting it. Other burners already have a remote installed, so as long as the pilot light is lit, you’ll never have to light it again.

With those basics out of the way and the gas powered log splitter in storage (won't need that again, right?), all that's left is choosing a brand, and you're off home with your new natural gas or propane gas logs. Peterson gas logs, also called Real-Fyre, are well-known for their quality and realism. They are one of the best fire gas logs on the market today.

Another top choice is Hargrove gas fire logs, which are known for their craftsmanship and authenticity. With so many brands of gas logs available, you are certainly not short of options. Take the time to look at each brand, and you'll be sure to find the right gas fireplace log for you.
